About
Matthew is a senior associate in our Built Environment team working in all aspects of commercial real estate, including leasing (landlord and tenant), development, investment acquisitions and disposals and secured lending. He has a particular focus on the leisure and retail sectors, acting for a variety of clients such as UK wide hotel and hospitality operators and large retailers.
His experience in development work includes all aspects of site acquisition and assembly, site acquisition financing and subsequent development, as well as negotiating agreements for lease, sale agreements and the refinancing/sale of the completed and let development.
Matthew also works closely with firms south of the border on the Scots law aspects of cross border portfolio.
Experience
- Henderson Park: Advising on the acquisition of Edinburgh’s iconic Caledonian Hotel.
- Henderson Park: Part of the cross border team advising on the £850 million refinancing of a portfolio of 13 hotels across England, Scotland and Ireland.
- Pandox: Advising international client Pandox on the £49 million acquisition and refinancing of the DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre.
- Starwood Capital: Advising on the sale of the Yotel in Edinburgh’s New Town and the refinancing of the Glasgow Yotel.
- London & Regional: Advising on the £10 million acquisition of a David Lloyd leisure Club in South Lanarkshire.
- St Andrews Brewers Limited: Advising on the lease and subsequent financing of the new Eden Mill distillery, café and visitor centre in St Andrews.
