The legal market is evolving; our clients are looking for more flexible resourcing solutions and many talented professionals need more flexible working arrangements. Our flexible resourcing model enables us to place talented professionals into short term assignments with our national and international client base.
Is flexible working right for me?
There is no one size fits all and we are interested in hearing from a variety of legal professionals from NQ level upwards. Applicants will go through the same recruitment process as for our permanent positions and must be able to act as an ambassador for the firm, adhering to our values and high standards of client satisfaction and quality of work. This will especially suit:
- those looking to gain a broader experience, or try out something different while considering a permanent move
- those looking for a different work-life balance and the opportunity to pursue other interests alongside a successful legal career
- those looking for variety and the opportunity to apply their skills in different environments
- those who want to take control of their own career and work at times that suit them
Whatever your reasons are for wanting to pursue a career with greater flexibility you will find the following skills useful:
- Flexibility - you will be able to flex your approach to new situations quickly
- Resilience - going into new environments on a regular basis can be challenging
We recommend that you speak to any contacts you have who are working in this way to find out if it is right for you and speak to our resourcing team to answer any questions you may have.
How does it work?
You will be contracted to the firm for specific assignments. This could involve covering an internal role for a short period of time or working directly with a client. You will always have close support from Burges Salmon teams before and during assignments.
On joining our team you will go through an on-boarding process to make sure you are assignment-ready. This will include completing some of our screening processes and an induction to Burges Salmon. You will be given access to relevant internal training sessions and resources to help you in your own professional development.
Once you’re ready to go, we will keep in touch with you regarding suitable assignments – opportunities will depend on our client requirements so we won’t be able to guarantee work is always available, however we are keen to keep you involved with the firm so you will be invited to relevant training and legal updates.
Being as flexible as possible will make it easier to find you suitable assignments, and you are never under any obligation to accept if something isn't right for you. When you are not completing an assignment with us you are able to pick up assignments from other firms or agencies - we do not require exclusivity. Being able to undertake secondments to our clients will be a key advantage as demand for these has never been higher.
While working on an assignment you will have a contact partner within Burges Salmon and have relevant access to our systems and resources.
