Welcome to Employment Edit, our regular update giving the pick of the key developments in employment law from the last couple of weeks:
- The latest statistics from the Ministry of Justice show a continued fall in employment tribunal claims. For the period April-June 2014, the total number of single claims was down 70% on the same period last year and was a third lower than in the previous quarter (January-March).
- The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has published a guide (PDF) for employers on the new right to unpaid time off to accompany a pregnant woman to ante-natal appointments, which comes into force on 1 October 2014.
- Acas has issued new guidance on dress codes and appearance in the workplace, focusing particularly on tattoos and body piercings, and religious dress.
