Last week, 18-22 January, Burges Salmon ran its third annual B-Innovative Week, bringing the firm’s people together to explore and be inspired by the latest technologies and approaches to innovative client service delivery.
The firm-wide initiative, led by Burges Salmon’s Innovation & Client Solutions and Learning & Development teams, boasted a packed programme of virtual webinars and workshops for its 800+ lawyers and business services professionals. The week also saw a number of sessions held by high-profile guest speakers in the technology arena.
The B-Innovative Week initiative supports the firm’s strategic focus on innovative service delivery through collaboration between Burges Salmon’s lawyers, project managers, innovation specialists and technologists.
Guest speaker Ian Gosling, founder and CEO of Autto, ran a session on the company’s no-code automation tool, discussing the range of benefits of rapid automation technology for the legal sector, and – together with Burges Salmon solicitor Alex Knowles-Smith who had been tasked with exploring Autto beforehand – provided attendees with a live demonstration of the tool. A second session saw the firm’s Innovation & Client Solutions team hosting a session alongside Autto during which participants had the opportunity to build an app prototype using the technology.
People across the firm also had the opportunity to attend a virtual meeting masterclass led by Esther Stanhope – The Impact Guru and international speaker, author and personal impact expert – to develop their confidence and skills in the remote working environment.
Burges Salmon also welcomed new partner Solomonic, whose litigation intelligence platform will empower the firm’s legal teams to enhance decision-making and client advice throughout the lifetime of a case through the provision of data and analytics. Solomonic managing director Edward Bird demonstrated to attendees how unlocking new insights increases the value offered to clients.
The firm has also produced a number of on-demand learning modules for its people focusing on a range topics relating to technology and innovation, including a session on design thinking and applying this concept to legal problem solving, a video on Burges Salmon’s first mobile app, and presentations on other technologies that are changing and improving client service delivery in the legal industry.
Emma Sorrell, Burges Salmon’s Innovation Manager, comments: “We’re delighted that our 2021 B-Innovative Week programme was so widely attended across the business, especially as the programme was entirely virtual this year.
“Identifying and exploiting technology and innovative service delivery solutions for the benefit of our clients has become a critical part of the firm’s strategy; it was a privilege to welcome some fantastic guest speakers throughout the week to support us in championing engagement amongst our people with legaltech and innovation.”
