The Pensions team at independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has been nominated for two coveted awards at the Pensions Age 2024 Awards. The awards, now in their 11
th year, recognise schemes, providers, organisations and leading individuals from across the pensions industry.
Nominated for Pensions Law Firm of the Year, Burges Salmon is recognised for the breadth and depth of its team, one of the largest in the country and amongst the few national firms to have lawyers also qualified in Northern Ireland and Scotland. It advises around 10 percent of the UK’s trust-based occupational pension schemes. The firm’s Pensions clients – some of whom it has represented for more than 30 years – span the private and public sectors, large commercial master trusts, not-for-profit organisations as well as religious and educational bodies. Burges Salmon regularly acts on complex issues and high-profile cases, enabling pensions clients to work through the regulatory landscape they operate in, whilst balancing their schemes’ financial stability and the needs of their members.
Recognising that innovation in the pensions industry is vital to understanding its ever-changing landscape, Burges Salmon’s interactive tools have also been nominated in the Innovation Award, including its Pension Schemes ESG and UK Pensions for International Companies Triage tools. The former is an interactive guide that provides direction on how trustees and employers should meet their ESG requirements and helps users identify gaps in their knowledge; the latter aims to simplify UK pensions for international companies and assist them on a broad range of UK pensions issues, from understanding the UK Regulator’s powers, to buy outs and de-risking.
Richard Knight, partner and head of Pensions at Burges Salmon, comments: “We’re pleased to see our firm nominated for two awards at the Pensions Age 2024 awards, and we look forward to seeing our clients, colleagues and peers on the night. In a volatile regulatory environment where pension schemes are facing ever-greater challenges, our team remains committed to providing the highest standards of legal advice and to continue developing innovative solutions. The interactive tools we have developed have been made available to everyone across the industry, to help share and increase knowledge by providing accessible and friendly guidance.”
Kate Granville Smith, director and ESG Pensions lead at Burges Salmon, adds: “ESG is a theme which we believe will continue to be important to pension schemes and an area the Pensions Regulator is focused on. We’re pleased to see our tool nominated for yet another award, cementing our position as an ESG leader in the pensions industry.”
Winners will be announced on Wednesday 21 February 2024.
