Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has advised Clean Energy Cap Ltd (CEC), the UK’s leading private-wire renewable energy company, on a landmark investment from True Green Capital Management LLC (TGC), a prominent renewable energy-focused private equity firm.

Since it was founded in 2021, CEC has experienced substantial growth, securing over 750MWp of energy projects under contract and establishing a pipeline exceeding 5GWp, focused on ground-mounted solar and battery assets. TGC’s investment will fully fund CEC's business operations and the development of its exclusive UK projects over the next five years.

Burges Salmon’s Corporate Energy M&A team advised on the transaction, led by partner Malcolm Donald, associate Victoria MacAulay and solicitor Scott Paterson. Malcolm comments: “It’s been a pleasure working with CEC on this strategically important and transformational deal, which will play an important part in how CEC continues to provide end-to-end and affordable renewables solutions to some of the UK’s largest power users.”

Alexander Goodall, Founder and CEO of CEC, adds: "This substantial investment from TGC is a testament to our pioneering business model, customer base, and project pipeline. With TGC's support, we are poised to accelerate our growth and deliver significant renewable energy capacity to the UK's largest power users, supporting the transition to a sustainable energy future. Working closely with the Burges Salmon team, we are grateful for their excellent and diligent advice throughout this project, assisting us to navigate the deal complexities through to close."

Burges Salmon has over 20 years of experience in the clean energy sector and is regularly engaged in first-of-a-kind work across onshore and offshore wind, solar, BESS, biomass, hydrogen and geothermal projects. The firm’s M&A expertise in the sector was recently recognised in Clean Energy Pipeline's Legal League Tables 2024, where the firm ranked highly for the 11th consecutive year, as the 2nd most active law firm for global clean energy M&A deals in 2023, with 57 transactions that amounted to £518 million in total value.
