The corporate team from Burges Salmon has advised the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on the establishment of the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) as a Government company.
As announced by the Secretary of State the Rt. Hon. Greg Clark last month, on 1 October, the OGA transitioned from an executive agency of BEIS to a Government company.
As a Government company, the OGA is granted with new powers including access to operators meetings; data acquisition and retention; dispute resolution; and sanctions. It also formalises the transfer of the Secretary of State’s existing regulatory powers in respect of oil and gas to the Oil and Gas Authority.
The Burges Salmon team advising BEIS and OGA was led by corporate team partner Nick Graves.
Nick commented: “We are pleased to have advised BEIS on this interesting energy sector development that sees the establishment by the UK Government of the OGA as an independent regulator. It’s great to be involved in helping the OGA drive investment, support jobs and further the UK’s competitive edge in the oil and gas industry.”
