The Corporate Finance team from independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has advised world leading animal genetics company, Genus plc, on its partial acquisition of Xelect Limited, a globally recognised commercial aquaculture genetics and technology business, based in St Andrews, Scotland.
The multi-disciplinary Burges Salmon team that advised Genus on the transaction was led by Edinburgh-based partner Danny Lee and associate Katie Carter from the firm’s Corporate Finance team. They were supported by a range of colleagues from across the firm including Tax, Incentives, Intellectual Property, Employment and Real Estate.
Mark Birri, Strategy & Business Development Director states that: “The Burges Salmon team was instrumental in helping us navigate the transaction to completion and to promote warm relationships with the Xelect team and its advisors.”
Danny comments: “Through the transaction Genus gained R&D capabilities, helping them to assess the long-term opportunity in aquaculture genetics. This was a complex and interesting deal and we are pleased to have helped the Genus team through the process.”
Katie adds: “This deal further underlines the strength of our fast-growing Life Sciences and Biotech sector team.”
