The firm is providing DCWW with a range of legal services including advice on: all aspects of environmental regulation; all aspects of water sector regulation including Welsh Water's statutory licence; contractual and commercial issues including Data Protection, Procurement and Renewable Energy projects; and on the impact of changes to the competition regime in the water industry and complying with competition legislation.
Welsh Water is the sixth largest of the ten regulated water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. It is a company that supplies drinking water and waste water services to around three million people across most of Wales, Herefordshire and parts of Deeside. It operates a unique model in the water sector with all profits being returned to its customers.
Michael Barlow, who heads Burges Salmon’s Water group, commented: “We are delighted to have been appointed by Welsh Water to provide advice across our Environmental, Regulatory, Commercial and Competition teams. We have increasing profile in the water sector and this appointment reflects the expertise that we are able to offer clients in this area. We were pleased to have the capability to put the right team in place to secure the appointment.”
