This week, independent UK law firm Burges Salmon is marking the third anniversary of its Edinburgh office and celebrating the growth and achievements of its Scottish practice over the past three years.

The firm’s office in the Scottish capital opened in May 2019 in line with Burges Salmon’s commitment to meet the needs of its clients and underpin its strong position in the Scottish market. It has grown remarkably over the past year and now boasts a 41-strong team.

Further demonstrating the firm's commitment to a strong Dispute Resolution team in Scotland after a heavyweight practitioner joined the Edinburgh office in 2020, this year Burges Salmon also welcomed Gregor Hayworth as senior associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution team based in Edinburgh.

The Corporate team has also expanded with solicitors Claire Withers, Tax and Incentives and Victoria MacAuley, Corporate Finance joining the firm, while senior associate Samir Younes and associate Emily Cranston joined the firm’s Banking and Finance team. The firm’s Planning and Compulsory Purchase team was also strengthened with the appointment of director Patrick Munro.

The past year has seen a number of key client successes for Burges Salmon’s Edinburgh team, having advised on a number of significant transactions across a range of sectors and for high-profile clients. Burges Salmon has also maintained or forged new partnerships with some significant institutions in Scotland, including rewilding, reforestation and carbon-offsetting organisation, Trees for Life, and Edinburgh Zoo’s public art event, Giraffe About Town.

Roger Bull, Burges Salmon’s Managing Partner, says: “The launch of our Edinburgh office three years ago has supported our strong position in the Scottish market and enhanced our capacity to provide wide-ranging sector advice across the UK. Our presence in Edinburgh underpins our strong market position and it is fantastic to see the team continue to grow and play such pivotal roles in supporting our clients through a number of exciting and significant projects and deals."

Three years on, we have conducted a review to see the growth of the Edinburgh office from 2020-2022. View the timeline here.
