Burges Salmon has become a signatory to the Scottish Business Pledge, marking a commitment to helping to support fairness, equality, opportunity and innovation in Scotland.
The pledge is a values-led partnership between the Scottish government and business that aims to boost productivity and competitiveness through fairness, equality and sustainable employment. It comprises a number of elements that businesses must already meet or must commit to addressing, including: Living Wage; zero hour contracts; gender pay gap; workforce engagement; skilled and diverse workforce; environmental Impact; innovation; internationalisation; community; and prompt payment.
With the firm’s well established Scottish practice and the progress it has already made in addressing many of the core pledge elements, Burges Salmon’s application to make the commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge has been accepted. As part of its pledge, the firm will participate in a bi-annual survey to continue to measure and report on its progress.
Katie Russell, partner in Burges Salmon’s Employment team based in its Edinburgh office, says: “I’m delighted that we are joining the movement to make Scotland a wealthier, fairer, more forward-looking nation by making the Scottish Business Pledge. It’s a privilege to share this platform with a 750-strong members’ network of like-minded organisations and this commitment will bolster our established reputation as a responsible business in the Scottish business community.”
