Emma Andrews, a senior associate in the firm’s Renewable Energy team, has been appointed to the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) Renewable Energy Procurement & Carbon Offsets Task Group.
UKGBC is a charity working with over 400 member organisations in the UK building industry to drive transformational change and campaign for a sustainable and net zero carbon built environment. It is part of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) network, a global network of more than 70 national Green Building Councils.
The Renewable Energy Procurement & Carbon Offsetting Task Group has been established by the charity to: develop best practice guidance on the procurement of on- and off-site renewables; provide a set of principles for offsetting any outstanding carbon balance once building emissions have been reduced as far as possible, and; set out a transition plan for phasing out the future use of offsets for net zero carbon buildings. The task group’s guidance is set to build on the principles of the UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework which it published in 2019, aligning with its Advancing Net Zero programme.
On her appointment, Emma says: “I am delighted that my application to join the UKGBC Renewable Energy Procurement & Carbon Offsetting Task Group was successful. With my experience in the sector, I’m looking forward to supporting UKGBC with developing best-practice guidance on the procurement of renewable energy and carbon offsetting alongside the other Task Group members.”
