Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has been named as the winner of the ‘Best law firm for eco-friendliness’ at the Legal Cheek Awards 2022.
The Awards’ shortlists are derived from their annual trainee and junior lawyer survey, where a series of questions are put to over 2,000 trainees and junior lawyers from nearly 150 of the country’s leading law firms and chambers.
The firm’s ‘Best law firm for eco-friendliness 2022’ award win is indicative of its work in acting for an environmentally sustainable future that positively impacts the community. As a founding member of the Legal Sustainability Alliance, Burges Salmon has been championing environmental improvements across the firm and in the legal sector for many years, taking a series of progressive actions including the pursuit of year-on-year energy reductions and efficiency gains, the adoption of carbon-free energy sources and investment in accredited carbon offsetting for residual emissions as a last resort. The firm has made its own commitment to being Net Zero by the end of 2026.
At the same time, the firm has continued to cement its reputation as a well-respected leader for legal advice in environmental and low-carbon projects, establishing a Net Zero Services cross-sector team to assist its clients in driving decarbonisation in the key sectors of energy, transport, the built environment and land use and food production.
Head of Corporate Responsibility at Burges Salmon, Kirsty Green-Mann, comments: “Respect for the environment is integral to Burges Salmon’s responsible business agenda and part of stakeholder expectations for both the firm’s people and its clients. The firm is working towards Net Zero with its own carbon reduction pathway as well as successfully delivering Net Zero services to a range of clients. Winning in this category at the Legal Cheek Awards 2022 only cements our efforts for championing environmental sustainability further.”
