A private client partner from Burges Salmon, John Barnett, has been named one of Eprivateclient’s 50 Most Influential 2014.
The 50 Most Influential is designed to identify, recognise, promote and introduce the leading practitioners of the private client profession and to show the breadth and depth of talent at the forefront of this sector today. Those that have made it onto the list are the leaders when it comes to providing the best possible service for clients and innovation in the way the needs of wealthy individuals are met.
The 50 Most Influential began with an open call for nominations for those private client practitioners based in the UK and UK offshore who have had a real impact on their profession. Each nomination was judged by PAM Insight on its strength, the merits of the individual nominated and PAM Insight’s market knowledge.
John Barnett became partner at Burges Salmon in 2003. He specialises in both international and corporate tax. A practising solicitor, he is also qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) winning the Chartered Institute of Taxation's (CIOT) Institute Medal for best national performance and highest total marks in the November 1998 CTA exams. Nationally, John chairs the CIOT's Capital Gains Tax and Investment Income Committee. He was a member of the GAAR interim panel. John focuses on providing tax advice to a wide range of clients, from high net worth individuals to many leading private banks and other financial institutions. Many of his clients are not domiciled in the UK, or have business or other interests abroad. In this role with the Chartered Institute of Taxation, John has been heavily involved in policy-level discussions about all the main capital tax changes since 2006 including, in particular, the domicile changes since 2008 and the forthcoming statutory residence test.
