Burges Salmon partner Ross Polkinghorne, who leads the firm’s Real Estate Development team in advising developers on complex regeneration projects, has been appointed to a task group on the Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap, an ambitious multi-stakeholder initiative led by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC).
UKGBC is a charity working with over 500 member organisations in the UK building industry to drive transformational change and campaign for a sustainable and net zero carbon built environment. As part of the #BuildingLife project, the organisation is one of several European GBCs developing national whole life carbon roadmaps with the UK initiative set to be launched at COP26 in November this year.
Bringing together stakeholders from the built environment sector, UKGBC’s Whole Life Carbon Roadmap will focus on developing a net zero carbon trajectory and a report that sets out the necessary industry actions, government policies and associated mechanisms to reduce built environment emissions.
Ross has been selected to join the roadmap’s New Build – Commercial Task Group. He says: “I’m very pleased to be joining one of the UKGBC Whole Life Carbon Roadmap task groups; I’m looking forward to supporting the project in building a common vision and agreed actions for achieving net zero carbon in the construction, operation and demolition of buildings and infrastructure.”
