It’s been over three years since Burges Salmon became signatory to the UN Global Compact with a letter of commitment aligning the firm with the Ten Principles of Responsible Business.
Burges Salmon’s Responsible Business framework and strategy, which includes its signatory to the UN Global Compact, reflects how its business, people, community and environment interconnect. The framework allows Burges Salmon to focus on the activities that are most important to its business and stakeholders. At the centre of the firm’s framework is its people; their passion and values drive the firm forward. By supporting a talented, diverse workforce Burges Salmon is able to provide the right dynamics for innovation and responsible contribution.
Significant progress has been made as a responsible business that prioritises high standards in the marketplace, an inclusive and engaging workplace, environmental sustainability and giving back to the community. This is exemplified by the award winning Burges Salmon ‘Working with Schools’ Programme, climate action with the determination of science-based targets, attaining the Investors in People Platinum accreditation and the delivery of client innovations.
Kirsty Green-Mann, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Burges Salmon, comments: “Involvement with the UN Global Compact has provided a world-class network on which to draw and helped to drive our pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly as we were part of the first cohort participants in the UN Global Compact SDG Accelerator Programme. A commitment to reporting and transparency holds us accountable and I’m impressed with the progress that’s been made and humbled by the positive feedback from our stakeholders.”
In the three years since the firm became a UN Global Compact signatory, Burges Salmon has been recognised for its responsible business endeavours, not least in winning the CSR Initiative of the Year at British Legal Awards 2021, being named CSR Team of the Year at the South West Dealmakers Awards 2021, Community Engagement Law Firm of the Year at the Bristol Law Society Awards 2021, LexisNexis Sustainability Award 2022, as well as Kirsty Green-Mann receiving the ESG Officer of the Year accolade at the Women in Governance, Risk and Compliance Awards, to name but a few.
