Clean Energy Pipeline, a source of news, data and analytics for the renewables finance industry, has launched its Clean Energy Legal League Tables 2024 report, ranking the top 20 law firms that provided legal advice on clean energy M&A and project finance deals in 2023.

Over the last 11 years, Burges Salmon has been the second most active law firm in clean energy M&A deals, according to Clean Energy Pipeline’s annual tables. In 2023, the firm featured in second place for M&A deals, with 57 transactions that amounted to £518 million in total value.

In terms of the Project Finance League Tables, Burges Salmon ranked 9th in the Top 20 Legal Advisors by Number of Deals table for 18 transactions, totalling £936 million.

Partner Camilla Usher-Clark, who leads Burges Salmon’s Corporate Energy M&A team, says: “It’s fantastic to see that our rankings in this year’s Clean Energy Legal League Tables – for both M&A and Project Finance deals – continue to recognise the size and strength of our clean energy practice.  To feature so prominently, particularly given that we are up against some of the world’s largest law firms, is testament to the quantity and quality of the transactions the team advised our clients on last year.

“To be placed 2nd on an aggregate basis for deal volume for more than a decade is terrific. We’re very proud to have played our part in advising on some of the largest, most innovative and complex clean energy and Net Zero deals across the UK, and overseas.”

Burges Salmon has over 20 years of experience in the clean energy sector and is regularly engaged in first-of-a-kind work across onshore and offshore wind, solar, BESS, biomass, hydrogen and geothermal projects.
