The Real Estate and Private Client teams at Burges Salmon have been shortlisted in the Property and Private Client Team of the Year categories respectively at the forthcoming Legal Week British Legal Awards.
The firm’s Real Estate team has received the shortlist for the work it has carried out advising Ahli United Bank (AUB) on the disposal of the entire portfolio of UK student accommodation properties held by AUB’s UK Student Accommodation Fund. The Burges Salmon team, led by Real Estate partner Rick Read, brought together lawyers from the firm’s Corporate, Banking, Tax, Planning, and Construction and Engineering teams, in acting for the sellers of the Fund on the sale of eight student accommodation properties located throughout the UK for £271 million.
Rick said: “We are pleased to have been able to support AUB UK Student Accommodation Fund’s growth over the past few years. Our team has particular expertise in funding and developing student accommodation projects and in Islamic finance. This enabled us to deliver a top quality service to our client as it grew the portfolio and to guide the client through all it needed to do to ensure the sale was delivered successfully.”
The firm's Private Client team has received its shortlist for the continued advice it has provided to clients on ground-breaking transactions, as well as the breadth and depth of its private wealth practice in general.
Over the last year, the team has strengthened its relationships with the world's largest trust companies, provided cutting-edge product opinions to many private banks, lectured to over 1,000 professionals on GAAR, and instituted a multiplier-relationship management (MRM) programme with its key institutional clients.
Jim Aveline, a partner in Burges Salmon's Private Client team, said: 'Having just been named 'Legal Team of the Year – Large Firm' at the STEP Private Client Awards 2015/16, we are delighted to have been shortlisted at the forthcoming British Legal Awards, which is one of the leading national awards programmes in the legal sector.”
Winners of The Legal Week British Legal Awards will be announced at an awards dinner at Old Billingsgate Market in London on Wednesday 25 November.
