Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has been recognised for its commitment to being a responsible business in the 2024 Lamp House Annual Report, one of only ten firms across the UK, US and Canada to be featured in the ‘Leading Firms’ category and ranked in the top 5% across the three leaderboards – people, planet and governance.

In particular, the firm has been commended for its approach to environmental sustainability, with Burges Salmon committed to delivering on its environmental ambitions through a combination of continued science-based carbon reduction targets, efficiency gains and investment in high-quality carbon offsetting projects, including a focus on biodiversity.

Scoring over 180 impact areas and analysing responsible business activity from across 215 law firms, the report delves into the practical actions taken by businesses and how these are creating meaningful change; the measures and targets in place to collect robust data in order to inform strategies and accurately track their progress; and how transparent firms are about their ESG performance and areas of improvement.

Roxanne Ratcliff, head of corporate responsibility at Burges Salmon, comments: “We’re pleased to be recognised by Lamp House as a leading firm for our transparent approach to responsible business and the demonstrable positive impact our initiatives are having on our people, communities and the environment. This recognition is a testament to our authentic and collective efforts to ensure our business has a positive legacy that contributes to a better, safer and more sustainable future, with our firm championing and delivering projects with real social value impact. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in 2024 and we’ll continue to listen to, and work collaboratively with, all our stakeholders, to evolve and refine our approach.”

Burges Salmon has a range of programmes aimed at delivering on its ESG priorities, outlined in its Responsible Business Strategy and Ambitions for 2026. The framework sets out the guiding principles by which the firm aims to deliver on its purpose to be the ambitious, sustainable and inclusive law firm that ensures its clients, people and wider communities flourish.
