Burges Salmon is a proud sponsor of Giraffe About Town, an initiative from Edinburgh Zoo and creative producers Wild in Art, presenting a large-scale public art event in Edinburgh that runs until 29 August 2022.
The event features more than 40 sculptures that form a free, family-friendly trail of discovery for local people and visitors to explore and enjoy, all while raising funds for the Zoo and the vital conservation work of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). The RZSS has protected threatened species in Scotland and around the world for over 100 years.
Each sculpture is sponsored by a local business, community group or education organisation. They have been decorated by local artists and communities – all designed to celebrate Edinburgh’s extraordinary heritage and cultural diversity.
Burges Salmon’s giraffe sculpture, based at Haymarket Station in Edinburgh, was created by Blair McCafferty. Blair aka ‘The Creature Emporium’ is an artist and illustrator from Dundee. Best known for his vibrant and colourful artwork, he creates art that is easily understood and enjoyed by all. His work is influenced by street art, graffiti character design and old skateboard art.
Blair’s giraffe sculpture, titled ‘A Drop of Culture’, focuses on the iconic Edinburgh skyline with a celebration of the city. The pink sunset highlights the amazing forms found throughout the capital and the paint drips are a reference to the arts and culture found within the city.
As the natural environment faces a biodiversity crisis, RZSS is inspiring and empowering communities to help save animals from extinction. This sponsorship collaboration further highlights Burges Salmon’s firm-wide commitment to being both a positive force in the local community and delivering on its sustainability aims in supporting conservation and biodiversity projects.
Robert Forman, an Edinburgh-based partner at Burges Salmon, comments: “We are proud to have supported this initiative from Edinburgh Zoo. It’s a great way to engage people and improve environmental awareness whilst having an element of fun. It particularly resonates with our commitments to the environment and the community. We’d encourage everyone that hasn’t already seen the awe-inspiring trail of giraffes to do so – and make sure to vote for your favourite design!”
