The first of the finalists is the firm’s Real Estate team which was shortlisted in the Real Estate Team of the Year category for its work advising the Greater London Authority (GLA) from the outset of a competitive dialogue process designed to identify the right commercial developer to transform Royal Albert Dock in London.
Secondly, the firm's Private Client team made the shortlist for Private Wealth Team of the Year acting for a private banking client on its acquisition of the international wealth management business of a large financial institution. This is the largest transaction of its type handled by a UK private client team and its complex, multi-jurisdictional nature demanded specialist knowledge of international trust law.
Judges for the awards, hosted annually by industry magazine The Lawyer, noted that ‘the standard of entries this year was exceptional’. On announcement of the shortlist, The Lawyer said that ‘those making it on to the list are true market leaders’.
The Lawyer Awards shortlist came shortly after further recent accolades as in April the firm was shortlisted as Pension Lawyers of the Year at the UK Pensions Awards 2014 and as European Pensions Law Firm of the Year at the European Pensions Awards 2014.
Burges Salmon’s senior partner Alan Barr said: “Receiving recognition through being shortlisted in these two national awards schemes is testament to the extremely high quality of work that we continue to conduct for our clients across a range of specialist practice areas. These categories will as always be hotly contested and we wish all those involved the very best of luck.”
Winners of The Lawyer Awards 2014 will be announced at an awards dinner on 25 June, followed by the European Pensions Awards on 26 June – both in London.
