Chris is a highly experienced projects and transport lawyer with over a decade of expertise in advising clients on a wide range of high-value and complex transport projects. He has a strong track record in managing and advising on rolling stock and bus procurement projects, franchise mobilisations, and day-to-day operational matters.

He acts for both private and public sector clients and well-versed in all aspects of rail regulation in the UK, in addition to being a member of the firm’s cross-sector hydrogen team.

Experience

  • FirstGroup: Advising in relation to the procurement of 14 state-of-the-art trains to support new open-access and expanded operations.
  • FirstGroup: Advising on the purchase of up to 1,000 EV batteries by NextGen and onward leasing to FirstGroup’s operating bus division.
  • Amber Infrastructure: Acting in relation to the purchase and leasing by a consortium led by Rock Road of 30 electric buses for Abellio West London Limited to operate on route 111.
  • FirstGroup train operating companies: Advising on all national rail contracts awarded between 2021 and 2023 to FirstGroup train operating companies.
  • First MTR South Western Trains: Advising on the procurement of 90 new Bombardier Aventra electric multiple units for the South Western Railway franchise and advising on all existing rolling stock matters during franchise mobilisation.
  • Advising FirstGroup train operating companies on various new fleet acquisitions and rolling stock matters, including Hull Trains, TransPennine Express and Great Western Railway.
