Overview

Peter joined Burges Salmon in 2019 from a leading international firm. He is a director in the Projects team with a wide range of experience and has advised on energy and infrastructure projects, both domestically and internationally.

Peter’s experience focusses on the commercial and regulatory aspects projects and transactions, including drafting project documentation.

Experience
  • Advising generators and offtakers on the negotiation of and entry into power purchase agreements and route-to-market agreements.
  • Advising applicants and holders of contracts for difference on regulatory and compliance matters relating to those contracts.
  • Advising capacity market participants on regulatory matters relating to the capacity market rules, and on applications for and the transfer of capacity market agreements.
  • Advising project developers on applications for, and issues arising in connection with, electricity and gas transmission and distribution network connections.
  • Advising confidential clients on the application of regulatory requirements (e.g. REMIT, licence conditions, and the availability of exemptions from the requirement to hold a licence) to their activities.
  • Advising confidential clients on various energy and infrastructure related M&A transactions (e.g. the acquisition or disposal of interests in onshore and offshore wind, ground and roof mounted solar PV, anaerobic digestion, nuclear power stations, other fuelled power stations, and electricity and gas networks).
  • Advising project developers on the development of biomass and gas fired power plants.
  • Advising EDF on the development of new nuclear generating stations in the UK (Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and Bradwell B).
  • Advising the UK Atomic Energy Authority on its STEP programme, intended to develop and identify solutions to the challenge of delivering commercially viable fusion energy and deliver an integrated concept design for a compact fusion reactor.
