Jonathan trained at Burges Salmon and qualified into the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team in September 2023. He has experience advising developers, public bodies and landowners across a variety of sectors including on-shore and off-shore renewables and energy infrastructure, transport, and residential development.

His experience includes advising on the promotion of nationally significant infrastructure projects and compulsory purchase orders, compensation for compulsory purchase, issues relating to special category land, and a range of planning, highways and public rights of way matters including statutory agreements.

Experience

  • RWE: Lead junior solicitor advising RWE on the preparation, submission and examination of a solar generation DCO application, including attending hearings.
  • Environment Agency: Supporting the Environment Agency to promote a flood alleviation scheme compulsory purchase order, including at public inquiry and advising on the exchange of Open Space land.
  • Gloucestershire County Council: Advising Gloucestershire County Council on the preparation, submission and examination of a highways improvement scheme DCO, including to negotiate protective provisions with statutory undertakers.
  • Blackbushe Airport: Providing strategic advice on the regeneration of Blackbushe Airport including the deregistration and exchange of common land and the availability of permitted development rights.
  • Equinor: Supporting Equinor in the examination of an offshore wind DCO, including at hearings and advising on the negotiation of complex commercial agreements with third parties.
  • GLIL Infrastructure and Bluefield Solar Income Fund: Advising GLIL Infrastructure and Bluefield Solar Income Fund on the planning elements of their acquisition of a portfolio of 58 operational solar farms from Lightsource BP.
