About

Madelin is a senior commercial lawyer specialising in commercial contracts, data protection (including in house as a data protection officer), technology, transactional intellectual property and a wide range of other legal matters.

She brings a wealth of commercial experience and is adept at communicating complex legal advice in a risk-based and clear manner to both legal and non-legal audiences.

Madelin spent the first seven years of her legal career in private practice before moving to Virgin Management where she worked for seven years before joining Burges Salmon in September 2024. Covering a wide range of sectors including technology, media, life sciences, food and drink, transport, sport, leisure and retail, she has also advised an array of organisations spanning from individuals, the Branson family office, start-up businesses and incubators to charities, public sector bodies, private and public companies.

  • Global platform launch: Leading the legal advice for a global platform launch in 43 businesses in 34 jurisdictions, including negotiation with the core platform provider and other suppliers, provision of training, and drafting of core legal documents.
  • Data protection: Designing and implementing a data protection framework for numerous entities, conducting data audits, leading data protection governance and performing the role of Data Protection Officer.
  • Global marketplaces: Advising major global marketplaces on commercial agreements and coordinating international advice.
  • Multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company: Advising on the £1.35 billion disposal of two major drinks brands.
  • Multinational pharmaceutical company: Advising on licensing and distribution arrangements.
  • Global consumer facing brand: Advising on its $7 billion acquisition of selected US assets, including drafting and negotiation of complex licensing arrangements.
