Olivia is an associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution team, having joined Burges Salmon upon qualification in September 2021.
She has experience working with both public and private sector entities on a variety of legal disputes, including highly sensitive investigations and inquiries, including those involving multiple fatality accidents.
Her experience spans a wide range of legal disputes – including regulatory disputes and core commercial litigation – with a growing specialism in rail industry and transport sector disputes. She also regularly advises clients on the interplay between liability under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (and associated regulations and guidance) and civil liability regimes.
Experience
- International freight rail company: Acting on the defence of multi-million pound civil claims from multiple railway and public parties arising from a derailment in 2020.
- Transport operator: Part of the incident response team following a passenger service derailment, advising on responses to various criminal and regulatory authorities, as well as providing wider liability advice.
- Transport operator: Acting for a transport operator following a multi-fatality accident during investigations by the police, safety regulator and Coroner.
- Central government: Advising on and managing a caseload of civil recovery claims regarding breach of contract by suppliers.
