About

Philippa joined Burges Salmon on qualification in 2022 and is a solicitor in the firm’s Environment team.

She has experience acting for both public and private sector clients on a range of projects across the environmental sphere, encompassing advisory, transactional and litigious disciplines. She has a particular specialism in the water sector and has acted for clients within the industry including statutory undertakers, licensees and navigation authorities across a full ambit of contentious and non-contentious issues.

Philippa sits on Burges Salmon’s Environment Committee,and co-convenes the South West Regional Committee of the UK Environmental Law Association.

Experience

  • Water utility company: Advising a water utility company on the development of the necessary legal agreements to underpin a novel water credits market platform.
  • Water and soft drinks company: Acting for a water and soft drinks company in relation to the appeal against abstraction licence conditions imposed by Natural Resources Wales.
  • Statutory undertaker: Acting for a statutory undertaker on a prospective judicial review against the water regulator (Ofwat).
  • EU-based biopharmaceuticals manufacturer: Advising an EU-based biopharmaceuticals manufacturer on the environmental and chemical regulatory framework relating to PFAS in England and Wales.
  • Water company: Advising a water company on its Gate 3 submissions for a ‘Water Resources – Strategic Resource Options’ project, progressed through the Regulatory Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development.
  • Corporate and property transactions: Advising clients across a range of sectors on environmental issues arising in corporate and property transactions including undertaking due diligence, drafting and negotiating environmental indemnities and warranties.
