Sarah Sutherland

Practice Development Lawyer

About

Sarah is a Practice Development Lawyer in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team and is responsible for arranging the team’s internal and external training, webinar series, thought leadership, resources and business development initiatives.

She brings extensive experience to the role having practiced in the team since 2012. In her previous role as director, she specialised in consenting substantial mixed use developments with a focus on providing pragmatic advice on strategy to reduce challenge risk and negotiating complex planning and infrastructure agreements. She also has considerable expertise in promoting CPOs.

Sarah is a Legal Associate of the RTPI and regularly presents at external webinars and conferences. She has been ranked as an ‘Associate to Watch’ and a key member of the planning and local government teams in Chambers and Legal 500, described as “very switched-on and efficient” and “very approachable” with her advice noted as being “very clear and thorough, sound and free of legal jargon.”

Experience

YTL Property Holdings: Advising on the revised masterplan of the Filton airfield site, a significant development to the north of Bristol involving up to 6,500 new homes and the implementation of the neighbouring consent for the YTL Arena.
Environment Agency: Advising on the promotion of the Oxford Flood Alleviation Scheme CPO and associated planning advice.
St Modwen: Advising on the phased delivery of Locking Parklands, part of the Weston villages masterplan and the consenting of a significant industrial development at Access 18, Avonmouth.
Greater London Authority: Advising on the phased consenting and delivery of significant regeneration schemes such as Gallions Quarter and Royal Albert Docks.
Transport for London: Advising on the development of over station assets and advising on detailed strategy for securing variations to consents.
