Tom is an associate in the firm’s Rural Property team and joined Burges Salmon in January 2024, having qualified as a solicitor in October 2018.
He acts for a variety of corporate and institutional clients, whilst also acting for private individuals.
His range of experience includes advising on sales and purchases of agricultural land, residential property, and commercial property. Tom also advises on agricultural and commercial tenancies and estate management issues, and acts for banks and landowners in relation to lending transactions.
Experience
- Sale: The sale of a farm owned by private individuals across seven lots with a total approximate value of £6 million, including a farmhouse, agricultural land subject to a new development clawback deed, and a fishery with various tenants in situ.
- Purchase: Acting for a private individual on the purchase of a manor house, and associated land, with an approximate value of £3.1 million.
- Tenancies: Acting for The Crown Estate on a combination of commercial leases, farm business tenancies, surrenders, and portfolio management matters.
- Lending: Acting for a lender on the financing of a series of leasehold interests created by new tenancies. The matter was notable for the extent of issues which needed to be resolved before the interests were suitable to be used as security.
- Energy: Advising on an option agreement in respect of a proposed energy site, including dealing with early access rights, and a buyback agreement if a planning permission for development is not implemented by a specified date.
