Emma is an experienced projects lawyer and advises energy generators, large energy users, vendors, purchasers, government departments, local authorities, funders and contractors on all aspects of projects and project finance transactions, particularly in the renewables, clean heat, waste and energy sectors.

Emma helps clients put in place contractual solutions to develop robust energy projects, including fuel supply, heat supply/offtake, grid connection and power purchase (with licensed suppliers, via private wire and through corporate PPAs).

Emma’s expertise includes:

• net zero/energy project and portfolio structuring, joint venture agreements, project development agreements, concession agreements and service agreements
• offtake arrangements including power purchase agreements, corporate PPAs, heat supply arrangements and private wire
• energy sector regulatory advice including Renewables Obligation, Feed-in Tariff, Contracts for Difference, Renewable Heat Incentive, Capacity Market, Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreement and energy licensing
• advising public sector entities on the procurement of a range of energy and clean heat projects
• waste and fuel supply agreements
• leading due diligence on waste and energy sector acquisitions, disposals and financings including onshore and offshore wind, solar, gas peakers and EfW
• energy trading and energy supply agreements, and
• local authority waste collection and disposal.

Emma was a member of RenewableUK's inaugural Shadow Board. RenewableUK is the UK's leading not-for-profit renewable energy trade association, and has established the Shadow Board in order to support its main Board by providing a greater range of views on key issues. Emma was also a member of the UK Green Building Council’s working group on its Renewable Energy Procurement guidance.

• Advising Bristol City Council on its Bristol City Leap project, pursuant to which the Council appointed a strategic partner that will work together with the Council on a programme of energy and infrastructure investment across Bristol, delivering more than £1 billion of investment. Advice included drafting the concession agreement and providing advice on structuring of key aspects of the structure for the delivery vehicle and risk allocation.
• Advising Grenian Hydrogen Limited on a number of green hydrogen projects, including in relation to hydrogen offtake contracts, electricity supply arrangements and the low carbon hydrogen production business model.
• Advising Worthing Borough Council as promoter of an innovative evergreen corporate concession model for the delivery of an area-wide heat network serving Worthing
• Advising on the innovative structure and contractual terms being put in place by Ripple Energy Limited to allow members of the public to finance and own onshore wind farms
• Advising clients including large corporates, public authorities and industrial users on direct PPA structures and documentation, including negotiating terms of the PPA with the generator and the back-to-back PPA with the licensed supplier and advising on how the direct PPA structure fits into the client’s current energy supply contract.
• Advising a number of water utilities and industrial users on PPAs for on-site renewables.
• Undertaking numerous due diligence exercises for potential investors in renewable energy projects including Belectric, Falck, ERG, BayWa, Octopus, including reviewing regulatory consents and licences and relevant contractual arrangements and providing advice on the application of incentives including the Renewables Obligation, Renewable Heat Incentive and Contracts for Difference.
• Working with AECOM and Asteros Advisers on legal aspects of the Advanced Zoning Programme (AZP).
