Overview

Frederick is an associate in the energy projects team and advises clients on a range of issues in the energy and utilities sector. This includes advising energy project developers, generators, large energy users, government departments, local authorities, funders and contractors on energy project development, contractual arrangements and regulatory issues, particularly in relation to renewable and clean heat projects.

Experience

Clean Heat:

  • Advising the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on the route to market aspects of the Heat Networks Transformation Programme for area-wide delivery of heat networks in heat network zones.
  • Advising the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero on project SWAN, an area-wide heat network serving south Westminster and one of the most ambitious energy network opportunities in the UK.
  • Advising local authorities on the Detailed Project Development of district heat network projects.
  • Advising leading UK residential developers on ESCo contracts for heat networks serving residential and mixed-use developments across London, including Master Concession Agreements, connection, supply and hybrid agreements for new and existing district energy network projects, and energy from waste projects.
  • Advising heat network operators and service providers on single site and multi-site heat network management contracts.

Renewables:

  • Advising solar and wind project developers on power purchase and grid arrangements for solar and wind projects.
  • Assisting renewable generators with issues arising from grid constraints and capacity arrangements.
  • Advising generators on the distribution network connection agreements and transmission network arrangements for large-scale renewable projects including battery storage.
  • Advising solar project developers of industrial-scale rooftop mounted projects, including power purchase and export connection arrangements.

On-Site Generation, Supply & Energy Services:

  • Advising generators on connection, power purchase and heat supply arrangements, including for biomass heat and power generation facilities.
  • Advising generation facility developers and operators on the contractual arrangements governing shared electrical infrastructure.
  • Advising leading UK residential developers on their private wire electricity and heat supply arrangements featuring combined heat and power plant.
  • Advising major UK airports on utility supply contract and private wire network arrangements.

Energy Storage:

  • Advising battery storage developers on the contractual arrangements for the development and connection of storage projects.

Utilities:

  • Advising a range of market participants on electricity and gas regulatory matters.
